Hints for Virtual Business Retailing Challenge 2

  1. When you open the Challenge 2 file, your purchasing system is set to purchase a small amount of inventory. Customers may become upset if they cannot find what they are shopping for within your store. You may want to increase your purchasing amount and then monitor your Products report for a couple of weeks before making changes.
  2. You may set your purchasing universally or individually. To set purchases individually, you may use the "More" button found on the purchasing screen.
  3. When purchasing, keep in mind you have multiple demographics within your city to satisfy. The Market Research action has been made available so that you can survey the population to aid you in your decision making.
  4. You may experience snowstorms within the simulation. Storms may cause customers to purchase more than they normally would purchase when shopping. Keep an eye on your Message Center so that you may adjust your purchasing accordingly if there is a storm on its way.
  5. When you open the competition file, you don't have any fixtures set up within your store. Keep in mind that you have impulse, complementary and seasonal products when merchandising.
  6. Strategize when you merchandise. You may be able to direct foot traffic so that customers purchase products they didn't intend to purchase when they first entered your store.
  7. Make sure you run through the current Challenge file over and over again, trying different strategies each time in order to try to improve upon your score (cumulative profit). Good luck!
